Tell us a little about yourself.

Maya Bello is a software engineer that works in the financial tech industry. Her path to learning how to code was bumpy, however, her grit and willingness to never give up help her to persevere. In Maya’s free time she likes to give back to her community. Whether it is teaching kids to code at StreetCode or being part of a teaching team that taught over 10,000 students globally to code, Maya enjoys teaching others and sharing her knowledge.

What was your journey like to get to where you are today?

It was hard. I went to a huge public university that was only 1% Black. I was the only Black Female Computer Science major in my year. A lot of people and professors told me to give up however I never stopped!

What advice do you have for the careerbyte community?

Focus on progress over perfection. As long as you are learning something new every day that is good enough. Slow progress is still progress so keep pushing!

What’s one of your favorite places in the Boston area?

New England Aquarium

What is your favorite quote and what are some apps, software, or tools you cannot live without?

“Believe you can and you’re halfway there”
